Blood and Thunder:
Musings on the Art of Medicine

I’m very happy to share that four of my poems appear in the newest issue of Blood and Thunder: Musings on the Art of Medicine (Winter 2026).

This journal holds a special place in my heart because it sits right at the intersection of the two worlds I live in every day: medicine and writing. These poems come from the exam rooms, hallways, waiting spaces, and quiet human moments that shape my work as an emergency and addiction medicine physician.

The issue includes my poems “Teaching the Intern How to Say I Am Sorry,” “Withdrawal, Bedside,” “Triage Begins with Water,” and “Code at 3 a.m.” I’m grateful to the editors of Blood and Thunder for creating a home for work that honors the complexity, tenderness, and moral weight of caring for people.

I’m proud of this one. It feels like a true reflection of what I’m trying to do on the page.
