Some Illnesses Get a Get-Well Card

Published in Mobius: The Journal of Social Change, this poem wrestles with the uneven ways we respond to suffering, how certain illnesses draw sympathy, while others still carry stigma. It comes from my work in emergency medicine and addiction medicine, and from a deep frustration with the way compassion can be so selectively offered.
