“The Last Conversation” appears in The Raven Review, Issue IV.

 

I wrote this poem in the space between an ordinary exchange and the realization that it would be the last of its kind. It lingers in the moments before clarity arrives, when words are still being spoken and meaning has not yet caught up. The poem moves through memory and aftermath, listening to how absence settles into rooms, into silence, into the things we reach for too late.
