“Haymarket Square”, published in Folklore Review, is rooted in personal history. Inspired by my great-grandfather, who immigrated from Russia through Ellis Island and sold produce in Boston’s Haymarket to support his family, the poem honors the quiet strength of immigrant labor, where each sale was more than survival; it was a prayer for belonging.
